Newport Beach Breast Augmentation

Breast enhancement is a much sought after procedure in Orange County, CA, because women like to feel good about their body image. Whether your breasts have always been small in proportion to the rest of your body, or they have changed in size or shape after pregnancy or weight fluctuation, breast augmentation can help you feel more confident and comfortable with your appearance. Breast implant surgery enlarges your breasts, providing fullness and projection.

The surgery is performed as an outpatient, and takes about 2 hours. The incisions required to insert the implants are not large, and Newport Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Solmer provides a choice of approaches to incision placement depending on your preferences and anatomy. These include peri-areolar (around the lower border of the nipple area), infra-mammary (in the lower breast fold), transaxillary breast enlargement (in the armpit), and transumbilical breast augmentation (through the belly button).

During your consultation, Dr. Solmer will first want to know what result are you seeking, and especially how large would you like to be? He will then examine you to determine what is appropriate for you, and what your anatomical factors are. For example, the width of your chest wall and any pre-existing asymmetries are findings relevant to your surgery.

Breast Implants

You will need to decide whether you would prefer saline or silicone implants. A saline implant has a silicone shell or envelope, and is filled with saline solution. A silicone implant is filled with silicone gel. Modern silicone implants use a cohesive type of gel. A silicone implant has a more natural squishiness and feel to it than a saline implant, although in a patient with some natural breast tissue this difference may not be obvious. One additional choice to be determined is placement of the implants under or over the chest muscles. The advantages of the various options will be discussed with you by Dr. Solmer to arrive at a plan for surgery that best suits your needs.

Recovering from Breast Augmentation

You should plan for about a 2 week recovery period, with most of the discomfort limited to the first day or two. Do not drive for at least several days, and not while you are taking any prescription pain medication. Keep your breasts and incisions dry until your first post op visit a few days after the surgery. You will have an ace wrap over your bra, which can be rewrapped if too loose or tight. Bring a fresh bra with you to your first post op visit. Dr. Solmer recommends a sports bra that does not tend to lift your breasts, as in the recovery period the implants need to settle in their proper position. Avoid any strenuous activity even if you feel perfectly well, and you can’t wait to show off your new look!
