Newport Beach Fat Transfer
Fat transfer, or fat grafting, involves taking fat from one part of the body and putting it in another part. It is usually removed by suction of excess fatty tissue from a body area such as the abdomen, and then purified by separating the fat cells from the fluid. Using small syringes and a blunt needle, the fat is then injected into the desired areas. Not all the fat survives, or takes, long term, but a significant percentage of it does in most cases. It has to be distributed in small amounts, or in multiple separate tunnels with some normal tissue between areas of fat being deposited. This is so that there is a good blood supply surrounding the transferred fatty tissue.
In the face, Dr. Solmer typically injects the fat into the nasolabial folds, the corners of the mouth, the jowl creases, the cheeks and the lips. The lips require more fat for a lasting result than the other areas. Fat transfer helps to fill out the face for a more youthful appearance.
Fat grafting to the breasts is rapidly developing area. It has become widely accepted to improve the result after breast cancer reconstruction. Dr. Solmer feels its use to augment the breast in patients who have had implant removal is relatively uncontroversial. The use of fat transfer as the primary treatment for breast enlargement in young women is a very promising option, but because a significant percentage of all women in the general population eventually get breast cancer in their lifetime, patients need to be aware that long term studies addressing this issue are not yet available.
If you are having a liposuction procedure, then this fat may be used to augment your buttocks, which can be a very nice addition to your body contouring procedure. This is also known as the Brazilian butt lift.
