Newport Beach Abdominoplasty
Pregnancy and weight fluctuations are the common causes for loose abdominal skin. This is a source of distress for many patients. If you have loose skin of your abdomen, especially with some hanging skin, you may be considering abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure to re-contour the abdomen by tightening the skin and muscles. Dr. Solmer may also suggest suction lipectomy to further improve the contour of the abdomen and restore your confidence and sense of who you are.
In a full abdominoplasty, an incision is made across the lower abdomen, a wedge of lower abdominal skin is removed, and the upper abdominal skin is stretched down to the incision. A cut is made around the belly button, and after the skin is stretched down, an opening is made in the stretched skin so that the belly button remains in its normal position. The muscles are tightened in the midline. The patient often spends one night in the hospital.
If most of your laxity is in the lower abdomen, you may benefit from a modified abdominoplasty, or lower tummy tuck. This uses almost the same lower abdominal incision, but removes less skin and doesn’t require an incision around the belly button, or umbilicus. The upper abdomen and sides of the abdomen are usually suctioned with this procedure, which Dr. Solmer generally performs as an outpatient.
Abdominoplasty surgery can be transforming for the patient, both physically and in their spirit.
